UA domain zone / Ukraine

Overview
UA domain is the official domain of Ukraine (Eastern Europe).

Ukraine is located in Eastern Europe between Russia, Poland and Romania.

Recommendations
UA domain is recommended for websites related to Ukraine or containing relevant information, for companies and individuals located in Ukraine or emerging to local market and for everyone interested in this domain zone.

Limitations
Third-level domain names (COM.UA/ORG.UA/...) in UA domain zone may be registered and used without any limitations.

Second-level domains in UA domain zone may be registered only by organizations and individuals owning trademarks registered on the territory of Ukraine. Therefore, in order to register a second-level domain names in UA domain zone, the following documents should be provided:
  • registration certificate of trademark for goods and services issued by relevant state authority (the State Patent) or
  • if a registrant (you or your company) has no certificate, an agreement on transfer of ownership to trademark or a license agreement should be provided, or
  • if you own an international trademark, you are required to provide a certificate from the State Patent of Ukraine confirming that such trademark is internationally registered and is protected on the territory of Ukraine; or
  • if you are a regional representative or a dealer of any international company in Ukraine or a trademark owner, you are required to provide an authorization from such company to use a given trademark in Ukrainian segment of the Internet.

If a trademark is jointly owned by several individuals, any of such individuals may register a domain in UA domain zone to his name.

If a trademark contains symbols other than the symbols of the Latin alphabet, a name of second-level domain to be registered should correspond to transliteration rules established by UA domain zone administration. You may check available trademark names at http://hostmaster.net.ua Enter a trademark name in Transliteration field at the left side of http://hostmaster.net.ua page. If several transliteration variants are available, you may register any variant you like or all available variants at the same time.

Each domain owner should send the following documents by mail within 1 year upon UA second-level domain registration:
  • a notarized copy of its Trademark Certificate (for Ukrainian trademarks).
  • an original of Certificate on International Trademark Registration valid in Ukraine and issued by the Ukrainian Institute of Industrial Property (Ukrpatent).
If the above document is not provided, further renewal of domains for one more year is impossible.

Registration term
Usually, UA domain becomes available for use in 7-10 days upon payment and submission of all required documents.
Maximal registration term for this domain zone is 14 days.

Usually, domains COM.UA, KIEV.UA, IN.UA, CO.UA, BIZ.UA become available for use in several minutes upon payment.
Maximal registration term for this domain zone is 1 day.

Usually, all other domains in UA domain zone become available for use in 1-10 days upon payment.
Maximal registration term for this domain zones is 14 days.

Transfer
To transfer domains in UA, COM.UA, KIEV.UA zones, be sure to inform your current registrar of your intention to transfer your domain to MyTop Group Ltd registrar (Ukraine, UA.MYTOP identifier) prior to domain transfer request.
Your domain will be transferred in several minutes upon confirmation of your current registrar.
In most cases, your current registrar may require a written domain transfer request.

In other domain zones, domain owners receive e-mails from UA domain zone administration with request to confirm or to cancel a registrar change procedure upon domain transfer request. Registrars are changed in several hours upon confirmation of a request by a domain owner. All requests are automatically cancelled if not confirmed by domain owners.
If an inadequate e-mail address is specified in WHOIS, ask your current registrar to correct such e-mail address in your domain details and to confirm your domain transfer request prior to submitting such request.

Currently, UA domain zone administration does not render official services to hide information on domain owners.
